With the hot weather the Airplane Lake Fire has grown to 900 acres. The photo is from a Forest Service flight on 8-16.
“The fire is burning on the northeastern aspect of Mt. Saul in the White River drainage. We expect continued fire activity, smoke production, and fire growth for the next 3-5 days until weather conditions moderate. Hot temperatures and increased winds are forecast for Thursday and Friday, before cooler temps and a possibility of rain on Sunday and into next week.
Forest employees are currently conducting trail sweeps and developing a closure order for areas immediately around the fire. Impacted areas include the White River Trail, Boulder Creek Trail, Indian Creek Trail, White River Rd beyond Tall Timbers, White River Falls Campground, and Grasshopper Meadows Campground.
Chelan County has issued a Level 1 (Ready) evacuation notice for the White River Road (FS 6400) to the west of Tall Timbers.”
When the wind eases in the evenings, smoke tends to flow down the White River valley towards the lake. Photo at sunrise this morning:
