This from the Chelan County Sheriff:
Over the past two days, our office has received more than 25 reports from community members regarding suspicious and fraudulent phone calls from an individual identifying himself as Sgt. Adam Musgrove.
Callers have described multiple variations of this scam, including:
– Threats to dispatch a federal agent to the recipient’s residence if they do not comply with instructions,
– Claims that the recipient faces fines or jail time for allegedly missing a federal jury summons,
– Demands for payment related to supposed warrants, with no clear or legitimate explanation
– Requests for individuals to verify their signatures against documents they were told had been mailed to them.
These calls are NOT LEGITIMATE. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office will not contact individuals to demand payment, threaten immediate arrest, or request sensitive personal information over the phone.
We urge all residents to take the following precautions:
– Do not provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers
– Do not make payments in response to these calls
– Hang up immediately if you receive a suspicious or threatening call.
