The Chelan PUD is working with local fire districts to develop a plan to prevent new fire starts during extreme weather events defined by high winds and dry fuels. Several studies have ranked Plain, Lakme Wenatchee and the upper Chumstick Highway as the highest fire risk areas. That’s why this plan is focused on that area in 2021. In the rare circumstance when we must turn off power to protect general public safety we will notify you in advance.
WHAT IS A FIRE SAFETY OUTAGE:
- A proactive power outage designed to prevent wildfire ignitions from utility infrastructure
- After extreme fire weather has passed, crews inspect the lines before power is restored
- A Fire Safety Outage is a measure of last resort when public safety is threatened and hopefully will be rarely used.
