WHERE WERE YOU WHEN HISTORY WAS BEING MADE?
Where were you in the late 1970’s? How about the late 1980’s? That’s the time frame Chelan County Fire Districts 4 and 9 were being formed. The need to organize responders to come to the aid of their neighbors was recognized and the challenge was met head-on by a group of forward thinking community members.
Oh, how things have changed! We started with borrowed gear, begged other districts for surplus equipment and in some cases loaned ourselves money to buy what we needed. Flash forward 30 years and look at us now. Who would have guessed that we would go from a surplus pick-up truck (with no hose) to half-million dollar fire engines, not even counting the equipment onboard the apparatus?
The number of residents and visitors has exploded since those early days. With those changes has come an increasing demand for services. In addition, government-imposed mandatory training requirements have reached near epidemic proportions.
To address these impacts your two volunteer fire districts have initiated the process to merge the two fire districts into one agency. We believe this merge will allow us to realize economic and operational efficiencies which will ultimately improve the delivery of emergency services.
While we have held a couple of public meetings to discuss this proposal, we would like to continue to address any concerns or answer any questions residents might have by holding another open public forum shortly after the first of the year. If you have any pressing questions or concerns before then, please feel to call our office at 509-763-3034 and we will get back to you with an answer. Questions may also be emailed to email@example.com
We are asking you to be part of ‘making history” by supporting this merger and improving the delivery of crucial emergency services here in the upper valley. If you wish you may email notes of support to firstname.lastname@example.org or a petition of support will be available for signing at the annual Pancake Breakfast, Bazaar and Bake Sale at the Rec Club at the airstrip on Dec 6th.
It cannot go without being said that your generosity has allowed us to grow as an organization and we are grateful to be an extension of your kindness.
