A fire first reported near Manson on Lake Chelan Friday evening has grown to 700 acres by mid-afternoon Saturday. DNR and Forest Service assets including three helicopters are working the fire. Management of the fire will be taken over by a Type 3 Interagency team at 8PM Saturday evening. Level 1 evacuation notices have been issued in the Grade Creek Road area about seven miles North of Manson but no homes or structures are currently in the direct path of the fire. This fire is believed to be human-caused.
Another brush fire near the waterslides in Chelan was reported late afternoon Saturday- the current status of that fire is unknown.
Red-flag warnings have been issued for parts of Chelan County until 8PM Saturday evening. This means that a combination of high temperatures, low humidity and high winds create a situation where fire will spread rapidly. Please use extreme caution with any outdoor burning- just because campfires are permitted in approved-type fire pits under current restrictions does not mean it’s a smart thing to do.
