The fire danger today remains at EXTREME with a Red Flag Warning in place for this afternoon through Monday. A Red Flag Warning means conditions exist for rapid ignition or spread of fire due to high temperatures, low humidity and high winds. IFPL level 4 restrictions are in place which prohibit logging operations and use of chain saws.
Heavy smoke settled on the lake yesterday and remains present this morning. That will likely dissipate this afternoon if predicted winds appear.
Here is information provided by Susan Peterson of the U.S. Forest Service at 11PM 8-22-15 and disseminated at her request:
Clarification of where fire is in relation to the Lake Wenatchee/Leavenworth areas. There is NO fire in the Enchantments, Leavenworth, or Maverick Saddle area at this time, although we are experiencing smoke drift from other WA fires in all these areas.
The Wolverine Fire has crossed into the upper most reaches of the Entiat Ranger District and is located on national forest land several miles above Cottonwood. The fire is moving across the Larch Lakes area and slowly towards the Rock Creek drainage. We are assessing the fire/rate of spread/resources to manage if or when the fire spreads into the Rock Creek drainage and how this might impact the Chiwawa River Valley.
The Wenatchee River RD, in conjunction with the Chelan Complex Fire Team continues to evaluate and monitor potential impacts to people living and or recreating in the area. We ask people to remain aware of where they are in relation to fire in North Central Washington and to please, please be cautious with any cigarettes, engines, or other source of hot material or equipment.
