Chelan County and Western Rivers Conservancy (the inter-rum owner of the Nason Ridge Property) will be working with contractors to construct a fire break along the south side of the Nason Ridge Property. Starting next week a contractor will be working on the snow to construct a thinned fire break on either side of the road that goes between Butcher Creek and Kahler Creek.
Cross country skiers should take advantage of last weekends fresh snow to ski Lower Nason this weekend as this is likely to the last week of grooming on this trail.
The purpose is to reduce fuel loading in the previously harvested unit to reduce potential for wildfire initiation/spread and open up the under story to allow the ponderosa pine to grow above brush level and trend toward a more resilient forest type. We worked with neighbors and USFS biologist to determine a work window that would not impact migratory birds that nest in this area, and determined that thinning over snow before spring migration would have the least impact.
