It’s been quite a day at the lake the last 24 hours. High and rising water, very high winds/rough water, lots of debris coming down the lake, downed trees and power outages.
The lake level rose during the day Monday and we’re hoping its crested and perhaps receding some already but had a lot of heavy rain yesterday afternoon and evening and that sometimes takes about a full day or so to show on the lake level with all the water coming out of the Little Wenatchee White River drainages. You can follow the river flow forecast for the river levels at National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service I think when this recedes we’re going to find some significant beach erosion and there’s a lot of debris to clean up.
We’ve been on the lake since 1977 and this is the third-highest water as I recall, the earlier ones being the storms of November 1990 and 1995. They were both events created by heavy early snow with high moisture content followed by “Pineapple Express” weather systems that dumped a lot of warm rain. We had 26-30 inches of water in our basement during both of those- by my very rough eyeballing of it, the current lake level this morning is about 4 feet short of those 1990-1995 levels. You can see real-time images from the lake on this website by clicking on Webcams at the top of the page.
The power in Kahler Glen and along the length of Cedar Brae Road went off about 3PM yesterday, restored at 10:40 PM. We received a dusting of snow overnight and the temp at 7AM this morning was 34 degrees with also had some intermittent very light snow in the air.
Will update this posting when there is anything significant to pass on.
12:25 PM Tuesday: The water level is definitely receding some- hope it continues……
