Long time residents recall Lake Wenatchee freezing 3 or 4 times in the last 20 years and quite often 30 or 40 years ago. Usually a cold streak will freeze the whole lake and then there will be a dock and piling challenging thaw. This year we have been treated to a 1/2 frozen lake. The lake was on it’s way to freezing before the big snow dump. The snow covered the lake and it looked like we were in for the rare sight of a frozen lake. Very quickly the west end of the lake thawed out, but the east end has remained frozen for the last two weeks. The wind has blown some from the west, eroding the ice from Brown Road back towards the east end. Presently the ice extends from the State Park west a mile and a quarter. Warmer afternoon temps have been offset by cooler nights.
