Update: 6AM Wednesday

We received 3.25 inches of new snow overnight Tuesday but then a lot of heavy rain on Wednesday and Wednesday night.  Since Jan 2nd we’ve received a total of 85.75 inches of snow.  North Shore Drive, South Shore Road and many other non-arterials are one lane wide only and require backing up if you meet another vehicle. Local arterials are narrowed down so be cautious.  Power and fiber service has been restored to all known areas.  The PUD has done a good job up here with repeated outages in some areas.

If coming up to check on your properties here be prepared to shovel parking along the road, if you’ve not been plowed by a commercial service, so as not to obstruct travel lanes. Also, bring snowshoes and be prepared to slog through chest-high snow. With the heavy rain we’ve had now this is heavy, wet snow, difficult to shovel and very hard to walk through.

Avoid walking around beneath the eaves on buildings. There is a lot of heavy snow on these roofs right now and people have died in our area in recent years by being knocked down, buried and suffocated by snow coming off roofs and trees.

US Highway 2 from Scenic (West of Stevens Pass)  to Leavenworth is closed, including Tumwater Canyon from Coles Corner to Leavenworth. Re-opening currently shown as perhaps Wednesday. For it’s current status go to  Stevens Pass US 2 | WSDOT .  The Chumstick Highway from Leavenworth to Plain and the Lake Wenatchee Highway from Plain to the lake are open and in pretty good shape but a little narrow in places.   Blewett Pass is open with traction tires advised.
