Nason Ridge Brush Cutters: An update:  The State Park has had the trail / road graded from the Kahler Gate to the Butcher Creek Gate and part of the Upper Nason Trail system.  As a result:

  • The trail is between 18” and 3 feet wider, as some of the side brush has been removed.
    • If we do any brush removal it will only in a few areas.
  • For much of the road the grading created a better trail – 70% to 80+%.
  • The grader has left divot as it removed medium sized rocks / small boulders, which makes the trail hazardous for bikes and the snow groomer and even walking –about 20% of the trail between the Kahler Gate and the power lines..
    • To make it safer, the rock will need to be removed and where large divots exist, they need to be filled in with dirt. (This should be easy, since the grader has left excess dirt next to the road

This is a work-party activity that doesn’t need a lot of group planning.  A two person team can either walk or bike out and remove the rock and fill in the divots or I can make sure the lock on the gate is open when a vehicle needs access.

  • The first 1.5 mile from the Kahler Gate seems to be the area most in need.  We need to concentrate on the area from the far side of the first big hill and back to the Kahler Gate.
  • After that there are a few places that will require fine tuning as far as Rollie’s place (2+miles out).
