Marijuana growing operation proposed in Plain

Rumors have been floating around for some time about a proposed marijuana-growing operation very near “downtown” Plain where a brand-new high wooden fence now stands. The rumors are apparently true. On June 30, 2015, an application was created with the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board by one Alto Buddha to operate a Tier 3 marijuana growing operation at 18800 Beaver Valley Road, Leavenworth, which is just North of the Old Mill Restaurant, Plain Hardware, Plain Grocery, etc. The same applicant has an additional application filed to operate a similar operation at 5494 NE Arrowhead Place in Poulsbo, WA.. Public records show that the 2 acre site in Plain was acquired July 31, 2015 by Wildhorse Associates LLC of P.O. Box 11-178, Bainbridge Island, WA.

Inquiries about the status of this application with the Chelan County Commissioners have confirmed only that the moratorium on licensing of marijuana growing, processing or retail operations in Chelan County remains in place, thus the application for the Plain operation remains pending. The Chelan County Commissioners will meet to hear public opinion on marijuana operations in Chelan County at 10:30 AM on November 10th at the County Commissioners meeting room at 400 Douglas Street, Wenatchee, which is kitty-corner to the NW from the County Courthouse. If you have feelings one way or the other on this issue or on this specific proposed growing location, please be at this meeting to make your voice heard- don’t depend on someone else to speak for you. Emails to commissioners etc. are useful also but will not speak as loudly as your presence at this meeting- your presence is encouraged by the Commissioners.

Shown is a photograph of the proposed site taken November 2, 2015. Contractors’ vehicles were present and an excavator was working inside the fenced area so development is apparently underway at the site. For a community discussion, see the Lake Wenatchee Info Facebook page
