On Thursday April 13th, the four and half year campaign to Save Nason Ridge came to a successful conclusion with the transfer of Nason Ridge from Western Rivers Conservancy to Chelan County. Nason Ridge will become the 2nd community forest in the county, managed for Recreation, Fire Protection and Wildlife enhancement. In addition a stewardship fund has been established at the Community Foundation to provide seed funding for the stewardship of Nason Ridge. Nason Ridge will be managed by Chelan County with input from a community advisory committee consisting of adjacent landowners, community members and Chelan Douglas Land Trust.
Much thanks go to the members of the community that stood up in the summer of 2017 and dreamed that an imminent clear cut could be held off until a more community friendly settlement could be negotiated. In addition Chelan Douglas Land Trust provided key support and were a tireless partner in negotiating with Weyerhaeuser. Special thanks to Western Rivers Conservancy who provided funding to hold the property until the Community Forest could be established. Over 400 community members generously donated to the Save Nason Ridge Campaign, their donations were key in making the case for establishing the community forest.
