A note to recreational users and drone flyers at Lake Wenatchee during this time:
A notation in the daily official update on the Little Giant fire North of Lake Wenatchee is that the presence of recreational windsurfers on Lake Wenatchee on Monday impeded water scooping actions by helicopters and/or fixed wing aircraft. It stated “There was an uptick in fire activity today as dry, windy conditions persisted. Active fronts progressed in Tyee Creek, where crews reinforced the dozer line using backburning operations, and hotshot crews directly engaged spot fires. The firelines in the Twenty-Five Mile area are holding; crews continue to scout opportunities for structure protection and fireline reinforcement. Recreational windsurfing impeded aviation assets from scooping water out of Lake Wenatchee. The public is strongly advised to avoid the area to allow fire managers to work safely.”

Closures and Safety: Remember to stay near the shore and clear of firefighting aircraft scooping water from lakes and rivers. The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has issued a closure order for the Wenatchee River and Entiat Ranger Districts and Chelan Ranger District due to the Little Giant Fire, as well as a forest-wide campfire ban. There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the fire area. Unauthorized drone activity is prohibited under this TFR, as firefighting helicopters and aircraft cannot fly when drones are present. Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Closures and Restrictions can be viewed HERE.
