This from the staff at Lake Wenatchee State Park:
The Lake Wenatchee State Park will be beginning nightime astronomical interpretive programs from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2022. The Park is searching for eager volunteers with professional or personal experience in the field of astronomy or dark skies that wish to lead or assist with programs .
The park has acquired two Celestron Nexstar 172 SLT telescopes and a laser pointer for this project. The programs are expected to take place on the South Beach of the park, most likely be between dusk and 10PM.
Since the time of the programs will inhibit deep space observing, the park is anticipating programs surrounding Planetary, Lunar or Constellations with it’s correlated Sky Lore program. Programs including Dark Sky Conservation would also be accepted during non-observable days . This is a non-exhaustive list- if you have a good idea for a program and wish to share your knowledge with the community and visiting public, the park would be delighted to hear your ideas. The focus of the programs could be anything you find fascinating about the night sky that is translatable to children.
The objective of this night sky program is to connect Washingtonians to their natural heritage, capture visitors imagination, to have them keep asking questions about the great expanse of space beyond our atmosphere and to inspire others to learn more.
All volunteers will have to undergo a background check through Washington State Parks volunteer program. If you would like to share your knowledge and volunteer, please contact Lake Wenatchee State Park by telephone at (509) 763-3101 or by email at lake.wenatchee@parks.wa.gov
