Two good books now available from local authors highlight this Lake Wenatchee area we call home. One is an actual history of the area and the other a historical fiction work that highlights names and places we all know.
Rollie Schmittens book titled Greater Lake Wenatchee Area History is a 159-page collection of historical information, anecdotes and photographs of our entire Lake Wenatchee area. This is a great read and resource for those that make this place home. It is available for purchase at Plain Hardware, Midway Grocery and in Leavenworth at Books for All Seasons.
Dave Bartholomews recent publication On The White is a historical fiction account of the lives created by a young honeymooning couple that settle in the White River Valley just West pf Lake Wenatchee. Many of the place names and people are familiar to us as local landmarks, roads we travel everyday or the pioneers in our area. This is a good story and provokes a lot of thought of what life was in our home area in years past. This book is available locally at Plain Hardware and the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Wenatchee. It’s also available from Amazon but the local outlets are a better price.
