Update and Thank You from “The Pantry”

back room“The Pantry” provides assistance to those in need in our area. As we come into the Christmas season here is an update on what kind of help is needed:

We are doing well on food for the Christmas baskets, however a couple of food orders are not paid for yet and cash is running a bit low, so that is really our biggest need between now and Christmas. Things like fresh produce, eggs and butter is ordered in sufficient quantity for all the baskets for Christmas so that cost is significant. Many individuals and groups have already been generous, and we really appreciate every gift.

Sign-ups are currently underway for Christmas baskets, and pick-up will be December 19. We always prepare a few extras, so sign-up is encouraged, but not required. Just Plain Grocery is once again doing a holiday gift tree to go with the food, so folks can stop in there and pick up a tag if they would like.

We always welcome donations of non-perishable food and winter coats, snow pants and boots. We would like to remind everyone that we do not accept other clothing or household goods, and ask that these types of items not be left on the porch when we are closed. If there is a question as to whether or not we will accept a particular item for donation, we would love a phone call or an email, or please stop in when we are open! We can be reached at pantry@nwi.net, 888-1110, or home number 763-2158.

The non-perishable foods we most commonly run low on are peanut butter, tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, and canned soups.

Just as a reminder, our hours are every Thursday from 1 7 p.m. and the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays are fresh homemade bread day, available first come, first served, for a donation of $1.50 each. Loaves are usually coming out of the oven by about 11-11:30 a.m.
