Red Flag conditions will prevail over our area for the next several days. What this means is that the combination of very high heat, low humidity and high winds come together to create conditions under which fire can easily ignite and spread rapidly. Current fire restrictions do allow fires in approved-type fire pits but just because something is technically legal doesn’t mean it’s safe or smart. Under county ordinance fireworks of any kind are not permitted after July 4th and aerial fireworks specifically are not permitted at any time. Recent fire activity in Chelan and Douglas counties is indicative of the very volatile conditions that exist and will be exacerbated in the next few days. Refraining from any outdoor fires, use of outdoor charcoal briquette barbeques or discharge of any fireworks would be safe, smart and considerate to your neighbors.
