There is a proposal currently pending before the Chelan County Commissioners that would establish a county-wide Flood Control District. Establishment of that District would also bring with it a county-wide increase in property tax. Flooding from run-off in No 1 and No 2 Canyons near Wenatchee in the past have provided impetus for the action and the recent tragedy in Oso, WA has brought a renewed sense of urgency to the issue. The concerns are county-wide, however, and not limited to the Wenatchee foothills canyons. Many Lake Wenatchee residents will remember the 1990 destruction of Cedar Brae Road by multiple mudslides which isolated people in their South Shore homes. There have also been slides in recent years along the North Shore, along Lake Wenatchee Highway and on Nason Ridge.
This meeting is important to all of us. Please plan to attend. It will be held from 5PM to 7PM on Wednesday, April 16th, at the fire station across from the high school on Chumstick Highway in Leavenworth.
