An overflow crowd came together Friday evening at Mountain Springs Lodge to discuss the marijuana growing operation proposed for “downtown” Plain. Local resident Jerry Jennings chaired the evening with County Commissioner Keith Goehner, Sheriff Brian Burnett and Sgt Bruce Long of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department and State Liquor/Cannabis Enforcement Officer Scott Wernecke participating. The current status of the marijuana moratorium was discussed and the importance of pending action by the County Planning Commission was emphasized.

Attendees voiced unanimous concern and disagreement with the location of the proposed marijuana operation and specifically identified the offensive odor and the near proximity to retail businesses, recreation areas, school bus stops and homes as unacceptable. There were also concerns voiced over the potential for criminal activity or violence at the site and the required all-night lighting by the State.  Comment on our Facebook Page

Commissioner Goehner stressed repeatedly the importance of residents appearing in person at the Planning Commission at which a ban on marijuana operations in Chelan County will be debated. That ban would be in effect while Commissioners can devise a comprehensive plan for implementation of I-502 in the County including County Code revisions, zoning restrictions, etc. The Planning Commission meeting will be held at 7Pm on Wednesday evening, January 27th at the Commissioners meeting room at 400 Douglas Street, across the street from the main County building in Wenatchee.

If unable to attend the meeting, Goehner advised, do email the Planning Commission prior to the meeting and voice your opinion on this issue and cite specific objections you have to the proposal. He encouraged sending copies of the emailed comments to the State LCB, state legislators and county commissioners.  Here are email addresses for those mail recipients( please note corrected spelling for the Planning Commission) :
